Sample Radio / Wireless Projects
Planning & Procurement. Developed a migration, implementation, and acceptance strategy for a major municipality's 800MHz network. With over 5000 users on 7 sites and 24 channels, the network covers 313 square miles with 44 associated interoperability radio links. Worked with the vendor and the city to develop safe and acceptable plans (with associated costs) to present to NEXTEL for negotiation and approval. Once accepted, these plans are projected to require approximately two to three years bringing to completion.
Design Engineering. Provided design engineering for a six-phase public safety radio modernization project for a major municipality supporting the City’s Police, Fire and EMS departments. Final system configuration, based on Ericsson 800 MHz trunked radio technology, included a two-site, 24-channel simulcast network and two five and nine-channel remote sites. This network supports 4,500 radio users and automatic interoperability links to 21 outside trunked and conventional radio systems.
Planning & Procurement. Public safety voice (radio) and mobile data product and service trend report for mid-size city. Investigated open standard (APCO Project-25), commercial (e.g., Nextel) as well as proprietary voice radio solutions, inclusive of both FDMA and TDMA formats. Investigated mobile data wireless platforms, including traditional low bandwidth (25KHz channel) private radio approaches, emerging Project-25 trunked and medium speed technologies, potential utilization of 700MHz wide bandwidth data network via a Scalable Adaptive Modulation approach, wireless LAN 802.11 hot spot solutions, MESH-type wide area, high speed technologies and interim/long term use of 3-G commercial, cellular-based solutions. |
