Rapidly Growing Mid-Size City
The Challenge
Rapidly growing city of 75,000 supported by a full-time staff of nearly 450. Technology investments and staffing had not kept pace with growth. City departments competed for limited technology resources to support residents. Some departments had acquired their own dedicated IT support.
The Solution
eGov Consulting conducted a citywide IT and GIS systems analysis and developed recommendations for a practical, cost conscious strategy for implementing Digital Government and web-based services. This included a prioritized list of network, hardware, applications and GIS projects, with estimated capital and recurring costs and related deployment timeline.
Conducted a workshop with Department Directors to develop consensus around prioritized, calendarized projects list. Developed IT and GIS organizational structures and staffing models, as well as selective outsourcing recommendations, to support the strategy and prioritized projects, and consolidated all technology support into the central IT Department. Developed an IT & GIS Strategic Plan that documented the City’s new direction.
The Result
A strategic direction for the City and accompanying five-year technology investment plan and budget which the City Council reviewed and approved.
