Operational Audit for a Large County IT Department


The Challenge
A geographically large, urbanizing county partnered with eGov Consulting to formally assess their overall technology infrastructure and support structures. By completing this project, County Management was able to prioritize its technology investments and align its support organizations with its growth.


Years of rapid growth forced the County to prioritize its investments. After years of quick fixes, there was limited understanding of its current assets and no plan to move them forward.


The Solution
eGov Consulting worked with the County to audit all of its existing networks, hardware and software, and its technology support organizations. After working with the various departments to develop a consensus migration plan that leveraged legacy infrastructure and targeted limited investment capital, eGov also developed a plan for upgrading the skills and processes of its technology support staff.


The Result
A six-year consensus technology migration plan and budget which the County Commission reviewed and approved. Included a plan to shift technology support from mainframe programmers to web services, customer service.
